Citroen Xsara: ModificationsCitroen Xsara of three body types was ever produced, these are three and five door hatchback and five door station wagon. Xsara saloon is thought to be one of the most spacious in its class that is why backseat passengers will feel comfortable even in the three door hatchback. Trunk volume is 408 liters while station wagon is even more capacious as if its backseats are folded the load space is over 1500 liters. There were gasoline powered and diesel engines of 1.4 - 2.0 liters available. The most modest cars had a 75-horsepower 1.4-liter gasoline powered engine under their hood. Xsara automobiles provided with 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter engines were much more popular. Those 1.6-liter engines that had 8 valves put out 88 hp while the 16-valve ones produced 110 hp. The 1.8-liter 8-valve motor put out 90 hp or 101 hp and it produced 110 hp if it was provided with 16 valves. The model range was crowned with 2.0-liter Xsara. This model's horsepower was already 132 (136 hp after restyling) and even 163 hp or 167 hp. Only sporty VTS version was provided with the most powerful 2.0-liter engines. Diesel Xsaras (the ones before restyling) boasted of only 1.9 liter capacity and 68 hp, 71 hp, or 90 hp (there is no turbo charger in the first two cases). The diesel engine range was renewed after 2001. New generation motors of 1.9 liters (70 hp without a turbo charger) and of 2.0 liters (90 hp and 110 hp that was presented later) were introduced. In 2003 a 70-horsepower 1.4-liter motor was introduced. Base automobile is provided with 5-speed manual gearbox. 4-speed automatic one can be installed if paid extra. Citroen Xsara produced after 2000 boasted of quite rich production equipment that includes ABS, steering booster, electric window lifts and electric mirrors, cloth interior trim, central locking, immobilizer, front air bags, heated mirrors and front seats, fog headlamps, conditioner, sound system, and on-board computer. The automobiles produced before 2000 are much more modestly equipped. |
