Citroen XM: The History of the ModelThe first Citroen XM was put on the market in 1989. The new model was introduced to replace the company's flagship Citroen CX. The automobile was quite nicely received by the public and by the journalists. In 1990 it was awarded the title "The Automobile of the Year". Citroen XM throughout its history got with over 15 national and international awards. In 1990 the model range was expanded with the introduction of the new engines: 200-horsepower V6 and 2.1-liter diesel. In 1991 capacious station wagon Break is introduced. The most considerable restyling of the automobile was carried out in 1994. The renewed Citroen XM was provided with a more perfect hydraulic air suspension Hydractive II, its bumpers shape as well as its rear-view mirror shape was changed. Front instrumentation panel and central cantilever were redesigned in a modern fashion. In 1995 122-horsepower 2.0-liter gasoline powered engine was replaced by an updated power plant that produced 132 hp. Some time later a new 129-horsepower turbo-charged diesel engine was introduced. Citroen XM was taken out of production in 2001 when it was replaced by C5 model. |
