Citroen Xantia: The History of the ModelCitroen Xantia made its debut in 1993. The automobile replaced medium car BX in the concern's model range. Xantia became one of the most successful models of Citroen concern. The automobile was selling nicely not only in France but also in Europe. The customers appreciated the design, reliability, practicalness, great ride performance, capacious saloon, and quality interior trim. The automobiles produced during the first model years were provided with 1.6 - 2.0-liter gasoline powered engines. The 1.6-liter one put out 90 hp while the rest produced 121 hp, 147 hp, and 150 hp depending on the construction and on the model year. There were several modifications of 1.9-liter swirl-chamber diesel engine that produced 69 - 90 hp. The engine range was seriously restyled in 1996. There was a new 132-horsepower 2.0-liter 16-valve gasoline powered engine introduced and its turbo-charged version produced 147 hp. 190-horsepower V6 became the summit of the model range. The same year 109-horsepower 2.1-liter turbo-charged diesel was put into production. In 1995 station wagon Xantia Break was introduced. In 1998 the model was restyled. Hood, headlamps, rear lights, and instrumentation panel were changed and the automobile's equipment and passive safety were improved. In 1998 HDi series turbo-charged diesel engines started being provided. The last Xantia was produced in 2001 when it was replaced by Citroen C5. |
