Citroen Saxo: The Main BreakdownsCitroen Saxo is on the whole quite a reliable automobile. If maintained competently the automobile is problem- and bad surprise-free for a rather long period of service. Oil leak through crankshaft and distribution shaft seals is one of the most wide-spread problems. Such problems as a rule occur in 100 - 130 thousand km. Problems with idle adjuster and with some other engine management system electronic sensors are observed just as with other Citroen models. After a great number of kilometers traveled oil gearbox leak is possible because of the oil seal wear, what is more you can experience some problems with speed changing because a worn-out liner situated at the bottom of the gearbox lever. Clutch cable breakage is quite a well-spread problem and the clutch itself cannot boast of durability. You may need to replace it in 80 - 100 thousand km if driving actively in town. Citroen Saxo's chassis is pretty reliable. Rear beam's needle bearings can be called its only weak point. They are to be replaced every 40 - 50 thousand km otherwise having worn out they break rear beam's seats and you need to change the whole beam as a result. There aren't any other serious problems with Citroen Saxo chassis. No doubts steering link ends should be replaced once in two years if driving in the city. Levers, balls, and silent blocks live for 70 - 120 thousand km although the levers Saxo VTS is provided with can 'die' earlier. Wheel bearings and shock dampers boast of the same service lifetime. Generally speaking there isn't anything extraordinary in Saxo chassis and there aren't many parts to be broken that is, everything is simple, understandable, and not very expensive. There is only stub axle that can upset the owner by unexpected and rather tangible expenses and in case it wears out (as a rule it happens in 100 000 km or so, although the stub axle can live longer, up to 200 000 km) you need to buy it ready-assembled together with a pillar. |
