Citroen BX: The Main BreakdownsThe engines Citroen BX is provided with, are quite reliable. There can occur crankshaft and camshaft gasket leak after impressive kilometrage. Strange as it may seem the most problem-free are the automobiles provided with a complex multipoint fuel-injection system. Simpler carburetor versions suffer from excessive air inflow as well as from throttle spindle wear. Monoinjection system "illness" is throttle gate's potentiometer short life. Gear gate wear that results in gearbox's lever swaying and in unsharp speed shifting is a typical "mechanics" failure. Front axle intermediate bearing also wears out with time which can be identified by vibration while driving. Suspension's mechanical components are very reliable. Hydraulic system is also problem-free if maintained timely. Anyway if the automobile is quite an old one its owner will sooner or later have to encounter with hydraulic suspension repair and that costs quite a lot. Hydraulic pump is the most expensive part, although these are height corrector and brake system pressure proportioner-compensator that fail most often. These are the main failure of the steering wheel: steering rack hub breaks down with time which is accompanied by the knocking when you pass through bumps. Steering gear valve is also not very durable, oil is leaking from under it. |
